In the Vicotria and Alfred waterfront, the clock tower can be found, and its architectural style can be described as Victorian-gothic. When it was constructed in the year 1882, it served as the office for the commander of the port. The colour is typically red; in fact, the precise shade was meticulously matched to samples that were still on the building from the time it was painted with its initial coat. There was a device on the ground level of the structure that was used by the captain to measure the tides, and the building was utilized to provide an overview of the harbour.

13. TUYNHUYS,LOCATED IN THE GARDEN OF THE COMPANY

Since about two and a half centuries ago, the structure has been utilized by both presidents and governors of the United States. The earliest documented mention to the location dates back to 1674, when the Dutch East India Company (VOC) constructed it as a garden house to keep the tools for the company's extensive garden, which had been developed by Jan van Riebeek in 1652. Its humble origins may be traced back to this year. Approximately around the year 1682, the toolshed was transformed into a guesthouse in order to provide lodging for foreign guests who were visiting the governor, Simon van der Stel.

It was not until 1751 that the structure was utilized as a summer house by the highest-ranking officials in the nation. Prior to that, it had undergone various renovations and expansions. It was by the year 1790 that the structure was referred to as The Governor's House in the company's Garden. At this point in time, the gardens side of the building already had its rococo balusters, stucco curtains, and Greco-Roman statues, as seen by the drawings of Josephus Jones.

The architecture of the Dutch East Indies and the Netherlands in the 18th century served as a source of inspiration for the design of the structure, which featured aspects of both Neo-classicism and Baroque styles.

Currently, the president's office is located within the building. Although it is not open to the general public, it is possible to catch a peek of it through some reeds while you are in the Company's Garden.

At the garden of the company is where you will find the South African National Art Gallery.

The Iziko museums of South Africa are responsible for the management of this stunning structure, which was opened to the general public in 1930 and has multiple collections of paintings. This photographically appealing landmark has a table view that may be seen in the backdrop. In 1930, it first opened its doors.
